Taiwanese should adopt Japan's love of cleanliness
One hopes that Taiwanese who have these characteristics will hereafter no longer shrink and hide but instead bravely step forward and speak resoundingly to tell those slobs or Chinese, "Listen, a neurotic passion for cleanliness and nervosity aren't symptoms of illness. These are true virtues!" Taiwanese need not be entrapped by the idiosyncrasies of the Chinese language. Change of outmoded and incorrect concepts is overdue.

Roh's victory has the following implications: First, the spirited support of young voters of the so-called Internet generation served as a guiding force that shaped the final outcome of the election. Second, it highlighted South Korea's dynamic quest for change and high hopes for reform and improvement. Third, it showed the unstoppable force of South Koreans' anti-US nationalism.

A radical takes over the Blue House in Seoul
Radical left-wing and pro-unification reformer Roh Moo-hyun was elected president of South Korea by a slim margin yesterday -- despite the last-minute political U-turn of his ally, Chung Mong-joon.

The choice of the century for South Korea
Tomorrow, the voters of South Korea will elect their leader for the new century -- someone who will lead them in bidding farewell to the "old-men political era" under the "Three Kims" (Kim Jong-pil, Kim Dae-jung and Kim Young-sam) in the latter part of the 20th century, and in marching into the newly arrived century.

Comparing the incomparable will not do Taiwan any favors
But, the two are different in their histories, cultures, values and interests. Extreme caution is required when making any comparisons between the two. One must not make wrong analogies based on superficial similarities.
